U.S. Forces, China Theater (USF CT) was established in Chungking, effective October 24, 1944, by General Order 1, HQ USAF CT, October 25, 1944, implementing War Department Chief of Staff message WDOPD 384 CTO (CM-OUT 52150), October 25, 1944. By Joint Chiefs of Staff message WARX 51593 (CM-OUT 51593), October 24, 1944, Maj. Gen. Albert C. Wedemeyer was appointed CT commanding general, with mission to advise and assist the Republic of China''s military effort, and to direct U.S. forces in carrying out air operations from China. General Wedemeyer was also made Chief of Staff to Generalissimo Chinag Kai-shek.

General Albert Coady Wedemeyer (July 9, 1897 – December 17, 1989) was a United States Army commander. A 1919 graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, he was a temporary Lieutenant Colonel at the outbreak of World War II in December 1941.
